[2] Per inscription on the recto. Hermine Franziska Klimt, the artist’s younger sister, was living with him when he died, after which his estate passed into her care; her signature is thus found on the recto of numerous drawings, many of which were sold at auction throughout the early 1930s. It is not clear if the present drawing may have remained in her possession or had already at the time of her death.
